A Transparent, Collaborative Process
Do you want a bespoke formulation that no other brand has—crafted with unique ingredients you specify? Do you want to own your formula so you can work with the manufacturer of your choice? If so, custom formulation is the path for you. Our process puts you in control at every step, from concept to final production.
Step 1: Exploration
You will provide a product brief with details regarding your brand and product desires. This helps us tailor your products to integrate with the essence of your brand and uphold your brand philosophy. This is where we’ll collect details like target price and ingredient desires. Don’t worry, we can walk you through this if you don’t already have it nailed down. After this step, we determine whether the project is feasible, provide a quote to you, and you decide if you are ready to move forward. Once you’re ready, you’ll pay a deposit in accordance with the formula ownership payment plan option you’ve selected.
Step 2: Design
We’ll provide an initial product idea with highlighted ingredients and product descriptions, and you’ll provide your packaging. We will work together to make sure the product format is compatible with the packaging you’ve chosen.
Step 3: Development
This is the most exciting and longest time frame for your project. We’ll go through 2-4 rounds of prototype development to achieve the product you love. You’ll receive new prototypes each round, and you’ll complete a feedback form after you’ve evaluated the samples. The initial round will take approximately 4 weeks for us to receive materials and do our initial development tests. Each subsequent round will generally take approximately 2 weeks.
Step 4: Approval
You love your product sample and are ready to move forward! You’ll sign off so we know we can move on to the next stage.
Step 5: Testing
We’ll start your formula on in-house stability testing. It’s important for you to provide samples of your final packaging for this test to be valid. We can also help facilitate other third-party testing requirements on an as-needed basis.
Step 6: Manufacturing
If you have decided to use our small batch manufacturing services, we’ll collect a purchase order and deposit, order materials, and start manufacturing! If you will be using a different manufacturer, we’ll provide you with your formula, manufacturing instructions, and supplier list, and can work with them on the scale-up. We can also help match you with a manufacturer to meet your needs.
